kauai recap: a week in paradise

the breathtaking na pali coastline, from the kalalau trail

Every time we visit Kauai, we seriously consider moving there. Don’t get us wrong, we love our house and garden here in Eagle Rock, but there’s something enchanting about the idea of living in the tropics—just steps away from the beach, with ocean breezes blowing through our hair as we sip coconuts, eat fresh pineapples, and watch the waves all day. We’ve been home for just over a week and already dreaming about our next trip.

a weekend in Detroit

The Impossible Burger in all its glory

Burgers, bowling, and beers, oh my! We were invited by Impossible Foods to fly to Detroit to celebrate the launch of their plant-based Impossible Burger in the Midwest. We had been hearing wonderful things about these meatless patties and recently tried them at a local Umami Burger just a few weeks prior to receiving the invite. Our schedule was open, the two of us had never visited Detroit together, and we absolutely loved their product, so we delightedly accepted!

a surprise in Las Vegas

What happens in Vegas… stays on our blog. Last weekend, we took an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to the Silver State to surprise Adam’s grandparents, Dan and Lee, who are 95 and 93 years old respectively. Dan was one of the original producers of the musical Man of La Mancha back in the 1960’s, but hasn’t seen the play in over fifty years. Two weeks ago, when he mentioned to us over the phone that they were going to see a production in a park near their house, we could tell how much this performance meant to him, and we knew we had to be there. To make it even more special, we decided to keep our trip a secret, and make this a surprise that he would always remember.

blue glacier cocktail + Alaska recap

the blue glacier cocktail

We just got back from our very first cruise. Sailing through the Pacific Northwest this time of year was truly spectacular. This was our first time visiting Alaska, and the lush scenery and diverse wildlife this beautiful state had to offer was breathtaking. We felt so lucky to see humpback whales spouting from their blowholes, dolphins jumping from the water by the dozens, and bald eagles soaring overhead with their distinguished white heads, standing apart from the rest of their feathered friends in the region. From the 27-mile bike ride through the hills of Sitka, to a rainforest hike where we picked wild Alaskan berries, it was the perfect way to disconnect and surround ourselves in nature.

aurora spring + New York recap

aurora spring

This post was created in partnership with MacKenzie-Childs. All opinions are our own.

Two weeks ago, we visited upstate New York. Thirty minutes north of Ithaca rests a charming town called Aurora with a population of just five hundred people. Filled with picturesque gardens and cute colonial houses, we enjoyed walking around the village, admiring the vibrant tulips and pink blossoming cherry trees that lined the sidewalks. We were invited by MacKenzie-Childs to tour their headquarters, meet the staff, and get a behind-the-scenes look into how they make their handmade products. This was an easy decision for us since we were already fans of the company, and the east coast is beautiful this time of year.
