When did Husbands That Cook start?
Ryan told Adam about his idea to start a cooking blog during the first week of January 2015, and Adam said he wanted to do it with him!

When was Husbands That Cook officially launched?
We published two posts on April 29, 2015 which were penne with zucchini and lemon and triple chocolate fudge brownies.

How and when did you come up with the name? Isn’t it grammatically correct to say Husbands Who Cook?
On January 7, 2015 we were sitting on the couch at home, brainstorming names for our blog, and one of the first things that Ryan came up with was Husbands That Cook. We instantly knew that was the one, and the rest is history. The name Husbands Who Cook was also an option, but we liked the sound of Husbands That Cook better, and the site was born. And yes, it is grammatically correct to say Husbands “That” Cook, since the word “that” can be used when describing groups of people, like husbands.

Who does the writing?
Both of us do. We’ve have always enjoyed writing together. In 2009, just for fun, we started a travel journal that we continue to update whenever we go on a trip. For this cooking blog, we both edit each other’s writing and sometimes even finish each other’s sentences. That’s what happens after being together for such a long time.

Who takes the photos?
We both take the photos. Although, Adam usually takes care of the overhead shots since he is over six inches taller than Ryan.

What kind of camera do you use?
We currently use a Nikon D850 camera. For the first few months of our blog, we used an iPhone 6 (April 29-June 20, 2015). Then we upgraded to a Nikon D3300. Our first post using the D3300 was the artichoke-stuffed shells on June 24, 2015. We continued using that camera until February 2022, when we started using the Nikon D850.

What lenses do you use?
For the Nikon D3300, we use a Nikkor 16-80mm, a Nikkor 50mm, a Nikkor 18-55mm, and a DX Micro Nikkor 40mm macro lens for close-ups.

For the Nikon D850, we use a Nikkor 50mm, a Tamron 24-70mm, a Nikkor 35mm, and a Micro Nikkor 105mm macro lens for close-ups.

What lighting do you use?
In the first few months of the blog, we were using our iPhones to take photos, and we sometimes used a pair of tabletop lights like these. After transitioning to Nikon cameras, we now take all our photos using only natural light, shooting next to a window.

Are you Amazon Affiliate Members?
As amazon affiliate members, we make a small commission when someone buys a product that we link to, which helps cover the costs of running this site. (And to make it official: “Husbands That Cook is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.”)

What are the advertisements on your site?
There are a few small ads which are placed unobtrusively on the site. Their content is automatically generated by Google, and the revenue from them helps pay for the costs to run and maintain the Husbands That Cook website.
