One of the most popular posts on Husbands That Cook is our Ube Cake with Vanilla Marshmallow Cream. We fell in love with ube the first time we tried it in the form of a creamy ube milkshake at a local restaurant here in Eagle Rock. As soon as we got home, we headed to the kitchen and figured out how to turn this vibrant root vegetable into a beautiful cake. Ube is a Filipino purple yam, and its sweet, nutty flavor is used in many desserts and traditional confections. Today we are featuring it in the form of these adorable ube whoopie pies. iced vegan chai latte

Apparently mother nature wants to keep us at home. We’ve received her message loud and clear. Just this weekend, Los Angeles turned into a walk-in sauna with temperatures reaching a blistering 121°F/50°C in Woodland Hills. Even if we wanted to step outside during this record-breaking heatwave (we didn’t), we would need hi-tech space suits to keep our skin from spontaneously bursting into flames. And if these weren’t enough reasons to keep us inside, enter the recent wildfires spreading across the state of California, coating our blue skies in an unhealthy orange haze, complete with smoky air and falling ashes. Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t dip any lower… but let’s all take a deep breath. kauai recap: a week in paradise

Every time we visit Kauai, we seriously consider moving there. Don’t get us wrong, we love our house and garden here in Eagle Rock, but there’s something enchanting about the idea of living in the tropics—just steps away from the beach, with ocean breezes blowing through our hair as we sip coconuts, eat fresh pineapples, and watch the waves all day. We’ve been home for just over a week and already dreaming about our next trip.
